What is Family Day Care Service?

Family Day Care is an approved, home-based early childhood education and care service for children from birth to 12 years. Operated by qualified educators from their own homes, it offers small group settings with personalised care, strong relationships, and flexible hours. Family Day Care services are regulated under the National Quality Framework (NQF), ensuring safety, quality, and educational outcomes.

Educators follow the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and My Time, Our Place (MTOP) for school-aged children.

Eligible families can access the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) to help reduce fees, making Family Day Care an affordable and nurturing choice for Australian families.

How many children are in care?

Family Day Care educators can care for a maximum of four children under school age at any one time, with up to seven children in total including school-aged children. This low ratio allows for strong bonds and individualised learning.

How much does it cost?

Family Day Care costs vary by location, educator qualifications, and services, typically ranging from $10 to $15 per hour per child. Additional fees may apply for meals or activities, so it's best to discuss costs and potential assistance, like the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), directly with the educator.

What kind of learning experiences do children receive?

Educators provide play-based, developmentally appropriate learning activities aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and My Time, Our Place for school-aged children. Programs are tailored to each child’s interests, culture, and learning goals.
